Cut line: definition
The cut line is the path along which a product is trimmed or cut by a plotter. In sticker files it is saved as a separate colour, most often CutContour.
- Flat print
- Edge of the trim size
- Stickers
- Path in the CutContour colour
- In the designer
- Red dashed line
More about the term
For flyers the cut line is simply the trim edge. For contour-cut stickers it is any shape around the artwork that the plotter cuts. The kreatorproduktow.pl designer creates the cut line by itself and saves it in a separate file. See contour-cut stickers.
Frequently asked questions
Is the cut line printed?
No, the RIP recognises it by colour and passes it to the plotter.
How thick should it be?
Thin, e.g. 0.25 pt. The path matters, not the thickness.
