Print glossary
ICC profile: definition
An ICC profile is a file describing how a device or paper reproduces colour. Converting RGB to CMYK with a profile (e.g. ISO Coated v2 / FOGRA39) predicts how a colour will print.
- Example
- FOGRA39, FOGRA51 for coated paper
- Where
- Colour settings, PDF/X export
- Why
- Predictable colours
More about the term
The print shop usually says which profile to use. Without a profile the same CMYK value looks different on different machines and papers. See PDF for print.
